The Lake Havasu City Council has approved an intensified and expanded parks and recreation program. During the summer a wide variety of programs are conducted and attended by an excess of 1300 participants on a weekly basis. Programs continue through the school year for both adults and children. "Recreation Opportunities' brochures are printed by the department three times a year and are available at the parks and recreation office and businesses throughout the City.
The completion of Jack Hardie Park signaled not the end but the beginning of a park expansion program. The major park development program at Rotary Community Park (formerly Mud Shark Beach) was completed in May 1991. Many vistiors and residents are now enjoying this beautiful park. The 4.8 million dollar complex, C.V. Wood Family Recreation Center, opened in May, 1995. This recreation / aquatic complex is a complete recreational facility providing meeting rooms, a gymnasium with 1,000 seating capacity, administrative offices, a wave pool, a competition pool, jacuzzi, whirlpool, kiddie cove, and 225 ft. water slide. Through, the efforts of private citizens working together with city government, the Pearl Bailey Showmobile was purchased in 1992.
